However, the new standards apply only to full and non-full size rigid sided cribs. So if home providers use mesh sided portable cribs, those aren't covered. But as we said in the article, they should still be checked for recalls and wear and tear. Graco's lack of responsibility is stunning. La Jobi's response to the recall today was also breathtaking. I called the recall line 4 different times and could not get the phone service to recognize the model numbers I entered. I called La Jobi's customer service line to explain my difficulty, and ask if they could just take down my information for replacement parts. Their representative informed me she could not help. I was stunned. I asked "Is this Customer Service?" She replied "yes, but she couldn't help". I was told I had to use the recall line or the website. I informed her I had no access to the Internet and obviously my phone was not getting the job done. She politely said, "well, I'm sorry I can't help you." I will not buy another Graco product. So much for assistance I guess.
In our case, La Jobi has already replaced a "standard" size mattress that did not fit this "standard" size crib, as well as, replacement hardware to fix the failed drop side rail hardware. This will be our third replacement item for this crib. But many other parents, while their child wasn't injured, have reported problems with leveling the product and the baby slipping down into corners or against the sidewall -- the position the babies who died were found in. We feel the product is not safe and had to say so.

But your comment about what is a safe environment is very timely. As you mention, cribs have been recalled by the millions, along with bassinets and portable cribs. It does leave a parent wondering what is safe. We still believe the safest place for a baby is in a crib that meets current safety standards, with no additional bedding. You can find some tips for checking your crib for safety here: http://kidsindanger.blogspot.com/2009/11/cpsc-about-to-announce-huge-crib-recall.html

We call on manufacturers and the CPSC to work diligently on improving the mandatory standards for all children's products, but especially those used as sleep environments.Kids In Dangerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11921200998151088961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058493042656828221.post-83571183929146666402009-12-10T16:15:44.277-06:002009-12-10T16:15:44.277-06:00It is very unfortunate that those two babies died ...It is very unfortunate that those two babies died while sleeping in the Amby Baby Motion Bed. I couldn’t imagine what the parents are going through. However, having one of these beds and loving it for my child, I would like to know more about the incidents. I imagine the reason no one can find more information on them is due to the lawsuit, which doesn’t allow parents, nor should it allow organizations, to make informed decisions.

Also, I'm curious as to why Kid's In Danger along with CSPC suggests everyone stop using them immediately and switch to a safer alternative. What’s the safer alternative? In the past two years, CPSC has announced the recall of over 5 million cribs, bassenets and play yards. Kids In Danger even have links dedicated to these recalls. That sounds much more safe (please sense the sarcasm here)! Oh, wait! They have safety standards for those products too (again, sarcasm).

Sincerely,
Amby Baby Bed Owner & ParentAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058493042656828221.post-90029121458598016582009-10-26T07:04:47.603-05:002009-10-26T07:04:47.603-05:00Thanks for this information. Even if your child wasn't injured, it doesn't mean the product isn't dangerous. Recalls are like landmines -- some children use them with no injury, but you never know when the product will fail, often with disastrous results. In this recall, Fisher Price is offering a replacement or refund, allowing consumers to get a new safer product while taking a dangerous one out of use.Kids In Dangerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11921200998151088961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058493042656828221.post-21632676348493844822009-09-28T16:58:52.074-05:002009-09-28T16:58:52.074-05:00Well, I don't exactly how it could happen, but...Well, I don't exactly how it could happen, but I bought this exactly model and I can tell: my son played in it just right, every night since he is 6 months until today (he's 25 months) and everything is fine, the only thing I can say about it is that my child ragged the net in the corner, but well, now we have change to a little bed, not a problem with this product.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058493042656828221.post-76173944628511954272009-09-23T07:08:21.802-05:002009-09-23T07:08:21.802-05:00Absolutely a great offer by Toys R Us.
